Since 1855 We’ve Pursued our Passion

December 1855 we found our property. A deep valley housing an empty field with surprisingly fertile soil.

The purchase was completed in 1855 for a whopping $140 USD. The following year, we broke ground and planted the first vines: the earliest known clones from France, Italy and Israel. The foundation of the estate was laid, which still stands today.

Visitors soon came from all over the countryside, and Dog House Winery was born. The wines made by the first generation of the Hündehütte family were stunning. A select few bottles still exist in our Library under lock and key today.

By March 1880, the winery expanded the vineyard up the hillside, creating tiered landings for variable altitudes. This resulted in a wide new range of varietals that we could nurture.

Down to our day, we’ve continued to expand our varietals, and have reached the mountaintop with rows of vines. Now after more than 150 years, our expertise of handcrafting our wines, has been handed down from generation to generation. With 142 acres, we have one of the most beautiful estates for onsite visits and unforgettable experiences.
